Cartoony Memories... As Seen thru Corporate Hollywood

By: The Forbidden Douchebag

Essentially what happens went you ask Hollywood to make a movie based off your favourite characters from your childhood, only to have them “smurf” / “munk” / “ruff” up your expectations. Thankfully there are confidently made exceptions (including “Casper” and the original “Ninja Turtles”), but a majority of these films have been simply cash-grabs with little respect for the fanbases that will either angrily state everything that’s wrong or those who will happily open their mouths and let the shit fly in.

Masters of the Universe was good campy fun, as was TMNT (but I guess you did already mention that). Felix the Cat I just have an eternal soft spot for; nonetheless the film was a quality little absurdist romp added to by topnotch animation and adherence to its own juvenile levity... and I guess I just didn't hate Rocky and Bullwinkle so much... Those is my two cents. Otherwise great list; I cringed the whole way through!

I'm gonna have to disagree with three, maybe four of these entries. Speed Racer was visually decadent, confident, and bookended by two incredible, LAVISH chase scenes which validate the movie's entire existence as far as I'm concerned. A pretty daring movie for Hollywood, especially insofar as the childhood nostalgia cashcow would allow for. And I do know I'll always be in the minority there.

You included Space Jam in your list, but where's Looney Tunes: Back in Action?

Compared to "Space Jam" and a majority of the movies that are on this list, Dante and Goldberg's movie looks like a labor of love.

Nice list. I honestly can't believe that I used to like most of these films. By the way, did you ever force yourself to watch the live-action Fairly Odd Parents TV movie with Drake Bell?

Oh that film was just atrocious. Completely unnecessary and pitifully unfunny. The fun part about the cartoon was its cheery simplicity. Bringing it to the real world defeats the purpose.
