Cerebral-emotional directors

Perhaps you’ve seen work by Kaufman, Aronofsky, Herzog, Gilliam, Meirelles, Potter and Sheridan. If you haven’t already, you should also get to know Hal Hartley, Jason Kohn and Richard Dutcher.

I’m not sure what links all these directors up in my mind, except that they have consistently produced brilliant amalgamations of absurdity and beauty, sardonicism and hope, patience and surprise…in short, many of my favorite movies….though an incomplete list:
