Children's Book Adaptations

By: J. Pomp

All the movies I can find on MUBI [listing all the others out there would be a sisyphean effort, no?] that are based on books written for kids (not young adults, tweens, or teens).

Excluded: non-direct adaptations (i.e. sequels to movies that were based on an original book— e.g. Shrek 2 )

Alphabetical by author of source material.

Thanks for the FYI, Jordan, I hadn't realized the original story wasn't in book form.

Gerald McBoing Boing isn't based on a book; it's based on an audio drama written by Theodor Geisel, so related but at least deserves a disclaimer if included. Especially as there's a picture book which is based on the film, not the other way around.

Agreed on all fronts, Matt! It's funny how divisive kids' movies seem to be-- they really are either huge successes or total failures (probably because of the fragility of the material). WTWTA is one of the best movies ever made, and the new Alice is, yeah...

some good stuff on here. loved wtwta this past year. the newest alice in wonderland isn't all that great though. the earlier ones are though. the avante-garde classic "Alice" is pretty amazing.
