Great list, but I think you should consider David Lynch's films, particularly Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive - both have wonderful and rich cinematography.

If I had more time it would be longer, surely there are many films that stun by way of the brush.

You say no order, yet Double Life fittingly tops the list. Perhaps it being entering it first is no coincidence?

Although I have to disagree on some, but it's a great list, really opened me to a ton of new films to appreciate! xD

Have you seen Gus Van Sant's "Gerry"? I think that has some of the most stunning shots I've ever seen.

Camera movement, audacity, alignment, colors, significance to theme, perspective; I try and imagine certain films having been shot the same way with a higher quality image. Celine and Cria happen to be perfect examples of that.

I'm wondering as to why you chose a few of the films on here. Celine and Julie Go Boating for one is a fantastic film, but it isn't exactly the most visually striking film in existence, same with Cria Cuervos. What makes you choose a film for the list?

2001ASO should be much higher, but what do i know, its only Stanley Kubrick, one the most meticulous and exacting visual directors in the history of cinema.

I've only seen 67 films among this list of 199 films... that's quite a motivation!!

Punch-Drunk Love deserves to be on here just as much as the other Paul Thomas Anderson films.

I'm disappointed by the absence so far of Mizoguchi films on an otherwise excellent list. Talking cinematography, isn't Miyagawa's work for Mizo worthy of recognition?

I suggest "Innocence" by Lucile Hadzihalilovic. It contains some of the best cinematography I've seen in recent years.

May I suggest you take a look at the films of Mario Bava, his use of primary colors in the construction of his sets and costume design is really quite extraordinary, particularly when you take into the account how quickly he had to turn out his films. Quite an impressive list of films many which I know first hand and agree with your assessment.

Thank you very much, my friend, it's the tormenting element; everything that can be spoken by a character can be expressed to an even stronger degree with colors, objects, and cinematography. We connect to a character based on the amount of shadow, the level of the light, the surrounding, and for me, the way the camera follows them. If I can't connect visually, it is very hard for me to pass through.
