Contemplative Cinema - A few more additions to the collection

By: Slow Immersion

For me contemplative cinema which employs the use of atmosphere, mood, pacing, feel, sound, minimalism, and an emphasis on imagery have all become the most interesting factors in cinema for me. As the months and years progress, I found myself appreciating more and more director’s who employ this style.

I’ve been a long time fan of Harry Tuttle’s blog which is titled Unspoken Cinema, and © <‘,))( Astro-Tofupraxographer has created a list relating to the titles which have been classified as being contemplative by Harry. I won’t recycle films which are listed in either resource, and will try to add contemplative films which I’ve seen and enjoyed. Films are added periodically, and kept in chronological order to make it easier to spot new additions.

Films which are absent from MUBI:
El somni / A dream (2008) Christophe Farnarier / Spain
Kano (2011) Paul Tunge / Norway

Great stuff here. I'm happy to see the Spanish films, and will have to check out the rest.

I've watched a lot of Spanish cinema in the past month, and there seem to be a lot of active directors who have a contemplative style. It is great to see Spanish cinema with so many auteurs working today, and for me it is one of the most interesting countries. Maybe Turkish and German (Berliner Schule) cinema are my two other favourite countries right now.
