I highly recommend the work of Mychael Danna. Great work in Ice Storm, Kama Sutra: A Take of Love, Girl Interrupted, Sweet Hereafter and 8mm (though it is a shitty movie), among others..

Alexandre Desplat is one of my most recent favourites. His score for Benjamin Button was probably the only good thing about the film.
