Satyajit Ray thought very highly of Kurosawa too. Ray is one of the great masters of quiet dramas with hidden depths

My own Kurosawa favourites are Seven Samurai, High and Low, Hidden Fortress and The Idiot. He's certainly been influential in the West. If only many who know Japanese cinema mainly through him got to know lots of other treasures too.

Oh alright, then I misunderstood you. My bad. I will put Mizoguchi on my need to explore list for sure. I know he also held Satyajit Ray in high regard, and up until now I've only seen one of his films.
