Double Takes in Identity
By: Mugino
The Notebook’s Fantasy Double Features of 2009 inspired me to think of movie pairings. When I make music playlists I have a penchant for matching different interpretations of the same song — like Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking” contrasted with Barry Adamson’s cover featuring Anita Lane from the Delusion soundtrack. Apart from the obvious comparisons of style, sometimes something previously submerged within the lyrics will emerge or they twist and pervert them in startling directions.
So, I decided to give some thought to the world of remakes and re-interpretations of the same story, person or event. It evolved into a list of films linked specifically by a person. These aren’t necessarily my favorite films, just films that could be interesting to see together. Plus there are some titles that I’m still waiting to see added to The Auteurs. I’ll list them in pairs. [ Note: this is still a work in progress.]
