Anyone able to point me in the direction of some animation shorts done by women? 1940's-70's?
great list!. there are a couple of omissions... namely that of Liliana Cavani and Catherine Breillat!
Valeria Sarmiento, Marilú Mallet and Alicia Scherson should at least make your longer list!
yeah i know u're not a girl.it was a bad joke i guess.whatever.. but u're insane in your lists there's always so many detailed information. really good work.
nice...but i'm sure there r lots of women that we forget...hmmm. Liv Ullmann for ex. she was at the same time a directer too you know..nice though. you go girl!:)
ha, if Virginie Wagon and Kathryn Bigelow deserve to be on this list Kenji, then Tonia Marketaki, Frieda Liappa and Antouanetta Angelidi should receive a medal of abstinence :P 3 championing voices, equal to many ladies from the list above that although you haven't seen their films as with.....Amy Heckerling (!), i trust you'll believe in my accolades for them ;)
My favorite movie directed by a woman is Sisters, or the Balance of Happiness (German: Schwestern oder Die Balance des Glücks), by von Trotta, 1979. Of the handful of von Trotta movies I've seen, this if by far the best.
Anna Karina has directed two films "Vivre Ensemble" (1973) and "Victoria" (2008). She is slated to direct her third one in Quebec this year.
"And i’ve long imagined the Bulgarian Binka Zheliazkova’s The Attached Balloon (1966) to be one of the neglected treasures of the world" just wait till you watch Liappa's films ;)
Godard muse Anna Karina has written, directed and starred in two films, Living Together (1973) and Victoria (2008).
