This isn't an exhaustive list, there wouldn't be room for everyone. I'm not a girl.. And i've already included Liv Ullmann in the upper list, with 2 films, may pick one for the main lower list

ha, if Virginie Wagon and Kathryn Bigelow deserve to be on this list Kenji, then Tonia Marketaki, Frieda Liappa and Antouanetta Angelidi should receive a medal of abstinence :P 3 championing voices, equal to many ladies from the list above that although you haven't seen their films as with.....Amy Heckerling (!), i trust you'll believe in my accolades for them ;)

My favorite movie directed by a woman is Sisters, or the Balance of Happiness (German: Schwestern oder Die Balance des Glücks), by von Trotta, 1979. Of the handful of von Trotta movies I've seen, this if by far the best.
