Ah yes, well spotted- i've done a list each on Rohmer and Renoir, among my favourite directors. Strange noone mentioned it before!
You write in the favorites section that A Day In The Country is Rohmer, just to correct you it's Renoir, just a dumb mistake and you probably already knew it but you just haven't noticed that you wrote wrong.
There's nice taste, good taste, great taste and then, there's YOUR taste. Superb list. I love this list. I loooooooooooove Casque d'Or but I hated Le Bonheur, his fancy-free demeanor vis-à-vis cheating actually hurt me. But it's a Varda film and she does not make a bad film ever.
I love Casque d'Or too. It should be famous worldwide cos it's pretty well perfect. The wife's pain in Le Bonheur is all the more poignant for me due to its being hidden by his "fancy free" spirit and in contrast to the earlier bonheur. The final part may seem callous, overly relaxed or surprising and thought-provoking.
p.s.: Ruiz has much more essential films than Time Regained, remove that one (unless you're keeping it for popularity's sake) and add Mammame, Life is a Dream, Three Crowns of the Sailor and City of Pirates for starters :)
Quite the list even if I'm not a big fan of Kieslowski's trilogy. You've balanced acclaimed ones and hidden masterpieces, hence a great bond exists up there! I'm not a fan of Bunuel's French period but it's good to see you have no prejudices, hehe ;)
Another good list, Kenji. I love Lumiere, and my favorite Feuillade movie is the short Un Dame vraiment bien. I bought the English Leas Vampires because it included this. Bob
Is missing: Le Feu follet, Les Amants; Lola, Les demoiselles de Rochefort..etc...
Where exactly is Breathless??Am I missing it??Unless you think that "Breathless" is not an essential French film...
