You write in the favorites section that A Day In The Country is Rohmer, just to correct you it's Renoir, just a dumb mistake and you probably already knew it but you just haven't noticed that you wrote wrong.

Ah yes, well spotted- i've done a list each on Rohmer and Renoir, among my favourite directors. Strange noone mentioned it before!

There's nice taste, good taste, great taste and then, there's YOUR taste. Superb list. I love this list. I loooooooooooove Casque d'Or but I hated Le Bonheur, his fancy-free demeanor vis-à-vis cheating actually hurt me. But it's a Varda film and she does not make a bad film ever.

I love Casque d'Or too. It should be famous worldwide cos it's pretty well perfect. The wife's pain in Le Bonheur is all the more poignant for me due to its being hidden by his "fancy free" spirit and in contrast to the earlier bonheur. The final part may seem callous, overly relaxed or surprising and thought-provoking.

I'll add something by Ruiz, yes, thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to given an objective overview with a few hidden favourites too

p.s.: Ruiz has much more essential films than Time Regained, remove that one (unless you're keeping it for popularity's sake) and add Mammame, Life is a Dream, Three Crowns of the Sailor and City of Pirates for starters :)

Quite the list even if I'm not a big fan of Kieslowski's trilogy. You've balanced acclaimed ones and hidden masterpieces, hence a great bond exists up there! I'm not a fan of Bunuel's French period but it's good to see you have no prejudices, hehe ;)

Another good list, Kenji. I love Lumiere, and my favorite Feuillade movie is the short Un Dame vraiment bien. I bought the English Leas Vampires because it included this. Bob

Georges; No, Les Amants/The Lovers and Lola are already included. I wasn't sure if we needed 2 Demy musicals, but i thought i'd picked Le Feu Follet, an oversight, (actually it happened when i lost a few years of selections with internet trouble, had to resubmit) thanks for that

Hope you get to see Feyder's VISAGES D'ENFANTS (1925) and Grémillon's MALDONE (1928). Better than any of Renoir's silents, as far as I'm concerned.

i've not seen enough Garrel, i must admit- we could do with more by him on dvd in UK.

Excellent list, Kenji. Have you seen any Garrel apart Regular Lovers and Birth of Love? What about some Duras? I think she's as important as Rohmer or Godard.

Jake, "Breathless" is really overrated. I believe there is a lot of more important films out there to represent the start of the French New Wave like Hiroshima Mon Amour, Les Cousins or some Robbe-Grillet.

Ah well spotted, the films i picked from 1957 to 62 were lost when my net connection went off before i clicked save changes and i redid them hurriedly, had the feeling i'd missed one.
