Two contrasting performances from Mifune is I Live In Fear and Samurai Rebellion, proving what a great actor he was. He once said that he was proud of nothing he had made without Kurosawa as his director. Well, he shouldn't have been so harsh on himself because he's magnificent in Kobayashi's Samurai Rebellion!

well...and its not just Mifune, I believe Nakadai also has a brilliant enigmatic cameo in that film. The way Mifune shares his deepest secrets with him and Nakadai in turn advices him in a kind of a code language is fascinating to say the least.

I agree. And don't get me started on how brilliant Nakadai is in Harakiri..... You've given me an idea for a list of my own - Fascinating Characters in Japanese Cinema. I'll give it some thought!!!
