Of course, Visconti’s “The Damned” would be here but it isn’t in the data base. This is a topic that has managed to spawn a very substantial exploitation genre, a lot of scholarship and even an essay from Susan Sontag. I have never found much of it convincing but the licentious image of Weimar holds a good deal of currency. It has resulted in some very fine films, plus two real stinkers(Hint: The Night Porter AIN’T one of them).
