When I was younger and much more immature than I am now, I couldn't even get through one half of Tokyo Story, and I would watch Lav Diaz's Batang Westside 3 more times before finally finishing Tokyo Story. I found myself in tears by the end. Five more Ozu films later, I could not get enough of him. It would have been great to go to the Hong Kong Film Festival the year of his 100th birthday to watch the complete retrospective of his existing works (30+ films or so?). Next to Cassavetes, Akerman, Silos, Bernal, Noonan, he is on my list of filmmakers who I feel closest to personally. =)

Just starting to venture into Ozu territory, so this list will be quite helpful.

I agree with no, 1 as well. No love for *Flavour of Green Tea Over Rice* though.

I love all of these so much! Well, I haven't seen An Only Son yet, but I should.

Good stuff, and the right #1! An Inn at Tokyo and others should be added to auteurs database, and more Mizoguchi too..
