Honorable mention: Franklyn (Gerald McMorrow; 2008)
The film did not get a limited release in the US until late Nov. 2009 and then went straight to DVD. The film is not in The Auteurs database.

1. 500 Days of Summer 2. Up in the Air 3. Avatar 4. Star Trek 5. Inglorious Basterds 6. Antichrist 7. District 9 8. Up 9. Dead Snow 10. Moon I actually may have at least 10 more to list, this was a good year And I'm sorry for my very American list, but few foreign films got my attention this year

A fairly unique list here. I look forward to seeing most of these which I have not yet... I've seen 7-9 and enjoy 8/9, but really didn't get District 9.
