Favourite Actresses

My list of favourite actresses. What is it about an actress that you like enough to see a film solely because she is in it? Certainly, the women on my list are all beautiful, but more importantly, they are skilful actresses. But why Uma Thurman and not Jean Simmons? They’re both beautiful. They’ve both been in some fine films. But ~~for me at least~~ Uma Thurman has a quality that I want to see. These actresses engage the role itself, and by doing so engage the viewer; and, often times, through hypnotic sexuality.

I realize that many of the images are fanboy photos, which I feel a little bad about (but not that bad).

There are some others that didn’t quite make the list. For whatever reason, there are certain actresses whose performance I really enjoy, but I don’t necessarily feel compelled to watch their films. They are: Catherine Keener, Veronica Lake, Lisa Ray, Monica Bellucci, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Penelope Cruz, Anouk Aimée and Romy Schneider. I like LumiI Cavazos a lot. Tilda Swinton is compulsively watch-able, but I suppose she’s not quite the sex pot as the other women on my list. Ziyi Zhang is surrealy beautiful, but I’m not as impressed by her performances.
