Another GREAT list full of information and enthusiasm in sharing it with us!
Nice to see Tale of Tales at the top of the list
you should watch some shorts of Edwin :)
Fair point, i think featurettes up to 3/4 hr like Day in the Country may still fit, some might say the limit should be up to 1/2 hr. But anyway, Cowards Bend the Knee will be dropped. After all, i'm not including the Dekalog "Short" films
I think films like Cowards Bend the Knee, A Day in the Country, The Cheat and Not Reconciled (to name a general few, not necessarily on your list) should be considered as medium-sized films instead of short ones. I mean, they were basically made as features, if I'm not wrong, so maybe these fit in a micro-feature bonanza like Blue K created, haha :D Simon of the Desert I hadn't heard as a short film before for instance!
i'll have to see that then!
Yes, well he's on the verge of being tipped out
I like some Polanski shorts too, but I wouldn't really list any of them in a top 100, if I were you I mean ;)
I'm the same as House - how didn't I see this list before? Love it.
Thank you for this, Kenji. Not sure how I missed it all this time.
Yes, it's fine and i like all those Lye shorts i've seen in that style.
I much prefer the European pre- WW2 avant-garde to the post-war US avant-garde, and i will have you know my list is above reproach and unworthy of vile slander of cheating
hey, cheater, half of those are made by feature film-makers, not such an avant-garde / experimental fan? ;) and increase your animation choices, hehehe.
This is great. I'd love to start seeing some of these.
yes, it's important- there are a lot of other admired shorts missing as it's a list of favourites not objective essentials
I would say the first pixar's film, "Tin Toy", should be on the list as it can be known as one of the most influential short-film for the computer animation history...
Thanks for mentioning Sherlock jr, shorter than i'd remembered.
Great list, though I have to admit, I've never seen Tale of Tales. A Day in the Country would be my top pick, followed by Sherlock, Jr.
