Whoops, thanks. I'll remove Kim.
Check out Yesim Ustaoglu. She made two of my favorite Turkish films (Pandora's Box & Journey to the Sun)
No problem. I hope to revamp this list soon, so it'll be ready by March for my yearly viewing project of watching films by female directors. I hope to also add an IMDB list with as many films directed by women as possible. Unfortunately, the limit on MUBI is 1,000 films. I had 1,200 films before they told me I had to trim my list.
Nobel Peace Prize to you, right NOW: 1452 films directed by women. Damn oh damn. That's a life's work right there. Awesome. *bows down to her* Nicey nice. Keep IT up. :)
Because this list is so massive, could you point me to filmmakers (besides Deren and Denis) who fetishize the body?
I am going to have to move this list to my blog, www.cinemabecomesher.com because MUBI is unable to fix the bug in this list.
There is a bug that won't let me update the list. So please note that I cannot update the list and will be moving it to a competent site.
These films aren't in the database either (documentaries directed by women): A Walk to Beautiful - Mary Olive Smith Blossoms of Fire - Maureen Gosling & Ellen Osborne Pray the Devil Back to Hell - Gini Reticker Iron Ladies of Liberia - Siatta Scott Johnson & Daniel Junge Broken Rainbow - Victoria Mudd
Not in the MUBI database: Female (Documentary) Filmmaker Olivia Klaus http://twitter.com/oliviaklaus
Karen Shakhnazarov is NOT a woman director! He is a Russian director of Armenian origin and his name is pronounced Garen.
Charles, thank you for the correction. I don't know how that film got on there. :)
Due to a MUBI error, it won't let me update this list. I hope to update it when MUBI fixes their list bug.
Your best list, if I may so. It's great to have collective catalogues like this one around here.
"Runaway" is said to be directed by Michael Crichton. Last I checked, he's not a woman.
