Films of 2009, Ranked (updated 8/15/2010)

By: Catherine Krummey

Missing from The Auteurs’ database: Shall We Kiss (between The Hangover and The Last Station), Gigantic (between It’s Complicated and The Lovely Bones), Taken (between The Invention of Lying and Antichrist) and The Uninvited (between Bruno and G.I. Joe).

That makes 132 films I’ve seen that were released in 2009.

if this list isnt of the best, but of those you enjoyed, then you should probably rename it to "Favorites of 09"

These aren't necessarily the "Best of 2009" in terms of the greatest filmmaking, but the Best in that they're the films I enjoyed seeing and/or related to the most. I tend to be a fan of both Tarantino and coming-of-age films, so that's why Inglourious Basterds and An Education made the cut. They might not be there by the time I see everything though. Nine is third on the list of films I'm anticipating. It comes very highly anticipated. I have loved musicals my entire life. Adventureland was good not great - it won't be on the list by the time I see those movies I'm anticipating.

hmm not sure why you loved Adventureland so much and I also disliked Basterds and An Education but strongly agree with away we go, 500 days, wtwta, and food inc (even up a little bit). haven't seen prive lives so I must get to that... Overall really good list, I'm gona make my own after tuesday (seeing Precious and also something else sunday (don't know yet they keep it secret till morning of, always advance screening of some independent film)).
