The 1944 Jane Eyre had in its cast three extraordinary child actresses: Peggy Ann Garner, Margaret O’Brien, and Elizabeth Taylor. The first two reached an “awkward” stage after which they faded away from movies. Only Taylor successfully managed the transitions to teen-age and adult roles.
