French Films I've Seen

By: Ally the Manic Listmaker

[Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jacqueline Bisset in Le Magnifique]

I was having a conversation with Marcos A.: how many French films have I seen?

I don’t know. 500? 700? 1000? I don’t know. Let me list the ones I’ve seen here and maybe we can figure this one out.

Just last night I saw Micmacs at the theater. Last week I saw Wild Grass twice. I need to get my French fix!

Here are lists I’ve created by several French directors (this will help me create my list):

625? Off the hook. Were those seen on your French tenure, or were they flicks you've been seeing for the most part of your life? Just curious.

I had maybe seen two or three French films before I was 22: Amelie and Truffaut's Small Change come to mind. After I saw Rouge, I was on a quest to see as many as I could. So they are pretty much all the films I've seen during the last 8 years. I included the films I saw in France, but that is just a small percentage, since I was only there for 6 months.

Aha. I see. You could have done a binge-cinephiliac trip whilst on France, hence the question. Argent de Poche, a cute little film is it not? Rouge? Still have not seen that one, major flaw. 625 French films is a boat-full of Frenchness. Awesome. Do you know how the French say hi5 in Français? hi5, mon pote! aha.
