Georgia on my Mind

By: Elric

“While the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.” – Flannery O’Connor

“You’re scared. But that’s Ok. I want you to savor that fear. The south was born in fear. Fear of the Indian, fear of the slave, fear of the damn Union. The south has a fine tradition of savoring fear. " – Cape Fear (1962)

“Why Can’t men be more like plants?” – Return of the Swamp Thing

Cape Fear may be set in north Carolina- but if you know Savannah then this film is oozing with it. I often think where we film is far more important then where it is set as that is what seeps into the film and in the case of Cape Fear, Mitchum had been on a chain gang briefly on a stint in jail in Savannah and despised it. Some say this is why he was able to tap into such a vicious character for the film.
