I'm working my way through the Godard filmography right now, and I have to say that your top 10 is very similar to what mine would be, with a few order changes. (Histoire #1, Breathless 2, Pierrot 3). I completely agree with you on Weekend (great, but too disturbing to place higher). Also, I would highly recommend Une Femme Mariee (A Married Woman) if you haven't seen it yet. I was surprised how much I enjoyed that one.
All great films! I just like Band of Outsiders more. I know that my list is wildly unpopular. :)
Well its hard for me to say because I truly do think Week End is a fantastic film. It has so many great ideas, and they are all executed perfectly. However, yes, I do not find the film entertaining, at all. And while I can love a film that is painful to watch but is more of an experience than a film (ex. Inland Empire), I find it hard to rank highly a film where I was checking the clock every ten minutes. Do you think this will change on a rewatch?
I'm glad you think Week End is a great film, but what exactly do you mean by "it was just too painful to watch for me to like it more than his other films that combine ideas and entertainment." Are you saying that Week End lacks one of those two things?
I like the fact that you ranked Pierrot higher than Breathless. I though I was the only one who thought that way...
