‘Bringing class to the trash…’

Starting in 2008 when two listeners of another cult film and horror podcast Cinema Diabolica, Big Will from Canada and Sam/The Samurai from the South, decided to collaborate on a show dealing with midnight cinema, the show has some of the most detailed and well constructed reviews I’ve heard. With its patron saints Charles Bronson and Henry Silva, references to things from moustaches and obscure porn stars such as Randy Spears, and an underlining streak of homoeroticism between the two hosts that frequently reaches the surface, the testosterone and in-jokes may be too potent for some, but this should not put you off. Both hosts, and their numerous special guests, live up to being gentlemen, and their range of films covered keeps widening as episodes comes out each week. They have covered art house and so-bad-they’re-good films, and for the last years all the films in May have been chosen by the female listeners, and their mothers, for a ‘Ladies Appreciation Month’ which ranged from Terence Malick’s Badlands to the 1994 Street Fighter film. They can also claim to be one of the only podcasts, if not the only one, to have reviewed an instructional video, Surviving Edged Weapons, that is one of their best and funniest reviews in their entire back catalogue in my opinion.

Just be prepared for a large audio banquet. Most of their episodes now are around two and a half or three hours, so you may need indigestion tablets or Gaviscon after feasting of that much film podcast.
