HIDDEN TREASURES

Really, most great films not in English could be included. And silent films too. Some here (e.g The Band Wagon, Casque d’Or, Senso, Story of the Late Chrysanthemums, Tale of Tales..) may have a high reputation or have reached reasonable numbers of viewers but still deserve more fame or appreciation. The rest have certainly been hidden away or else, i think, undervalued.

I think in some ways the essence of being a cinephile is to look and dig for filmic gems. There is so much wonder and awe and joy when one do finds a new--wholly new--movie or director.

Finally caught up with Valley of Abraham--a hidden treasure indeed. I'm still bit film-shocked from the experience, and have no further words. Thanks.

Yes i love the film. I have already seen Douro Faina Fluvial, it's just a pity a lot of his films aren't more easily available here

Love the fact that you manage to include Vale Abraão, in pretty much every single one of your lists...that's really nice of you. Thanks for caring for Oliveira, the other I saw, yet again, and on film, Douro, Faina Fluvial; the earliest of Oliveira's films. (if you haven't seen it, as of yet, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stAQVDaH6pM )
