The Father of all genres. A real film must always be in essence a Horror film.

I do not know my horror but found out the genre can hold my interest despite my aversion of it for most of my life. Hope you will be happy to know I will be following this list in my journey of horror films. Cheers

One of my favorite "genre" film lists of the site. So glad to see Bug in it! :D

Thanks Cedric! Yes, Bug is great. The second time I watched it I was helping my then-girlfriend prepare her apartment to be fumigated because of an alleged bed bug infestation. It gave the movie an extra, unparallelled dimension of reality, but she didn't entirely appreciate the pointedness of my selection :)

Haha, great story! And your selection of The Ward made me curious to watch it. Carpenter made some mediocre horror films in the 2000s, but I never lost faith in him. Maybe it's his comeback. :) Will let you know my thoughts.

I think it's one of Carpenter's best, but I have decidedly questionable taste when it comes to horror haha. I would love to hear your thoughts though.

Just curious: I see you have Devil's Rejects on here, which means you don't absolutely despise Zombie. But what are your problems with Halloween II? I consider it his best by a mile. I saw you gave it one star. Also, what cut did you see? This is my favorite horror list on Mubi, by the way.

Haha, no I don't despise him. In fact, I think he's quite talented. I found Halloween II terribly dull, overlong and cliched. I saw the theatrical cut, but I'm willing to give it another chance. I enjoyed Zombie's Halloween quite a bit, and wanted to like the sequel. Is the director's cut better, or should I watch the theatrical cut again?

The director's cut is, in my opinion, a masterpiece, and one of my favorite films of the last few years. It's also one of the purest depictions of despair and madness, and the lingering effects of violence, I've ever seen. Its sequel-original relationship with the first is also amazing, they really compliment each other.

It looks like 'Martin' has had a DVD re-release in the UK after going into my nearest DVD store; if anyone if having difficulty getting it where they are, look online. BTW, I will be looking at Gimme Shelter in a new light after reading that quote.

No Dario Argento? or Mario Bava? (sigh) Still two great Fulci films though.
