One of the funniest 'bicycle-films' I saw was HECTOR (Stijn Coninx, 1987) with local comic Urbanus. I also remember a comedy with Bourvil: LES CRACKS. The bicycle ("fiets" in Dutch) is also an important presence in OORLOGSWINTER (Winter in Wartime), and also the opening of Donnie Darko and of course Elliott, that other kid with a bike, only here it's his passenger longing for home.

Have you seen the Merckx Giro d'Italia film i posted here from youtube? What he achieved over several years from 1969 was incredible.

Oh yes, thanks for honouring our national hero! We're all incurably addicted to this sport because of him. I haven't seen it, but IMDB mentions Merckx also in American Flyers. I'll have to look that up.

Ooh I'd been considering doing this very thing, but I'm glad a true list-master took up the cause instead. I recommend: 'Quicksilver', 'Up and Down', and 'Hell on Wheels'

I've just realised Jon Kennard had done a list a while back that i'd seen at the time! I had a feeling there was such a list.
