IMAX
By: The Forbidden Douchebag

IMAX is a motion picture film format and a set of proprietary cinema projection standards created by the Canadian company IMAX Corporation. IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. Since 1972, the corporation along with many scientific and historical institutions have been producing 30 to 50 minuted documentaries that were shown in specially created big-screen theaters, since 2002, some Hollywood releases have been upconverted into IMAX format for display in IMAX theatres and some have also been partially shot in IMAX.
There are three types of IMAX theaters: the first is the standard, big-screen IMAX flat screen, the second is presentation in a domed auditorium (often called “Omnimax”) and the third, most recent, is an all digital, albeit smaller presented, digital projection system used for IMAX’s expansion in local and international theaters.
