Yes, where is Sansho the Bailiff? My favorite.

Sansho the Bailiff is a quite simplistic movie. It is still very powerful, but I don't think it is as great as some people appear to believe.

I Was Born, But... is simply too low. Glad to see Naruse so well represented.

A list that reminds me how many awesome Japanese films there are. Although Nausicaa above Ugetsu Monogatari sticks in the throat a bit :)

Considering that both in the critics poll and readers poll, Miyazaki beats Mizoguchi, I don't think there is any problem with that, specially considering that Miyazaki is my favorite director. The problem is with your racism against the underappreciated artform of animation.

Racism? Is there a race of animators? I despise racism, but your epithet is so misused its amusing. Anyway, to answer your substantive point, I love Princess Mononoke, so my "racism" (lol) is clearly selective.

Racism = prejudice, you selected the animated movie on the list to rant about. That's what I usually expect from someone who is prejudiced against the artform. There are several movies much worse than Nausicaa above Ugetsu. Such as Yojimbo, Battles without Honor or Humanity, High and Low and Miyazaki's own Lupin film. Nausicaa is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time and also, Mononoke is a remake of Nausicaa which is inferior by most animation critics.

Hi -- I wonder if anyone here can help. I'd like to re-watch a movie that I saw a long time ago. I don't know the title and only have the vaguest recollection of one scene from the movie -- I just remember that I thought it was great. All I remember is that it was in color and it ended with a huge fire in a time period where all the women were wearing kimono. So vague, I know, but maybe that's enough for someone here?
