Except for Hitchcock, John Ford’s films were the first where I really became aware of the person behind the camera. I keep running into people who say that John Ford is overrated. To those people I say open your eyes, heart & head and take in Ford, contradictions, warts and all. He is one of the best. The list is incomplete because a number of films are not in the data base (Hangman’s House among others.) The order is not necessarily indicative of best to less.
