Looking up to Norway

By: Aleatoire

Norske filmer – Norwegians movies – Films norvégiens.

Only from the 2000s, I have not seen all of those movies but this list should be a good reference for anyone (including me) looking to learn more and watch more Norwegian movies.
Some of these have been awarded by the Amanda award:

If you can only watch one, choose The Bothersome Man (Den brysomme mannen) It is slow and contemplative with a great cinematography, both surreal and bleak, but exhales a terrible feeling of dread mounting with the distress of the protagonist.

Not on the database:
Sønner by Erik Richter Strand (written by Eric Vogel)
Fritt Vilt by Roar Uthaug

Kissed by Winter, Buddy, Mendel, O'Horton, Free Jimmy, Troubled Water (De Usynlige), A somewhat gentle man. I liked all these. Haven't seen Trollhunter, Zero Kelvin, Cool and Crazy, The Pathfinder, or Junk Mail (Budbringeren).

Oh yeah, I've seen Insomnia. I'd seen the Nolan version before and it didn't feel like it went through with the ideas it developed, if you see what I mean. But the original is pretty great. And I've seen Cold Prey but I can't find it on the database. I'll make sure that I watch Edvard Munch, I've read good things about it. Thanks!

"Edvard Munch" is pretty good, if long. Make sure to watch the longer version. I read about the cuts, and I think the longer one's worth it. There's also "Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt)," which is a pretty standard slasher movie, but it's formula done well, with an awesome female lead. Oh and you must see the original "Insomnia," directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg. Christopher Nolan made a remake of it, which I haven't seen.
