cat i like your list but my first would always be TAXI DRIVER!!!!!
The top three (The Departed, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and Taxi Driver) are pretty much in a tie, and I could have put them in any order. The top 10 films pretty much have the same rating, so the order could be easily changed. I put them in this order not necessarily by which ones are the "greatest" but by which ones I personally liked the best. As far as your opinions on The Departed, we'll have to agree to disagree - I thought that it was both entertaining and a good film.
Katherine, I very much value your opinion but are you honestly putting Departed as Scorsese's best film above Raging Bull, Taxi Drive and Goodfellas? I thought that the Departed was an entertaining film but that it ultimately failed and I think it has everything to do with its insistence to focus on Jack Nicholson's character which for all intents and purposes should have been a peripheral character (if you see the original Hong Kong version, the boss character is only in a couple of scenes). Also, with the way the film is paced it makes it seem like DiCaprio's character is only in the mob for about 2 weeks and so his descent into drugs and anxiety is totally unsupported. Finally, I didn't agree with the "Hollywood" ending of having Wahlberg's character show up and put a bullet in Matt Damon's head, he should have lived with the guilt and knowledge of what he had done.
