And Je vous salue, Marie (1985).
I don't think anyone would want the same sorta film tripping as when they're drunk....
My additions: 24 Hour Party People, A Clockwork Orange, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, Mystery Train, Permanent Vacation, The Doors, The Knack... And How To Get It, Waking Life, When You're Strange
The only movie that jumps out at me as being out of place is Last Year at Marienbad. I've seen it three times and it just doesn't click. Everyone will fall asleep. Throw in Koyaanisqatsi and you're set!
Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome should definitely be added to the list as it depicts consumption of different psychoactive substances symbolically in a series of ritual set pieces. Plus, it's one of the most vividly textured displays of rich color in cinema history.
Another one I forgot to mention--the most abstract film ever made (greatest experimental film): Dog Star Man. Brakhage is the master of the avant-garde and this masterpiece shows why. 2 of my faves which are also highly recommended--Tree of Life (most emotionally powerful cinematic experience) & Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (pure visual poetry.)
Waking Life is seconded. That and Mulholland Drive are great mainstream art films to trip to.
I was half way through the page when I thought to myself, "Where's HEAD?". Then I saw it and felt better. Will be using this for reference.
I love this list! Jim Jarmusch is great to watch too, and anything about space, documentaries, etc
You should put Tarkovsky's Mirror on here. It's one of the greatest movies in the world to watch stoned.
Good work. I watched Starship Troopers once under the influence of an illicit substance. Should be on this list.
