Some people love it, some can't see why, It's an old fashioned feelgood family film but also with technological advance and love of cinema; i really enjoyed it at the cinema with 3D

Nice list. I wonder where A Brighter Summer Day and Three Crowns Of The Sailor would fit in.

Looking back on this list I think the changes you have made make it even better, although it is sad to see 2001 going down.

In the late 80s 2001 was my #1 film, i'm not sure why it's been the main faller over the past 12 months, i think i'm less enamoured with a few by Kubrick

Maybe not for everyone, but for me it was heavenly. Well worth seeing on the big screen

I agree with you about Maborosi. One of the most powerful and haunting scenes in the film is the funeral procession by the sea. It's a sublime sequence that concludes a profound meditation on death and grief.

Almost all of these are huge personal favorites of mine as well. Some notable exceptions are 2001, Casablanca, Persona, and Singing in the Rain.

Well, it's a list of favourites not objective essentials, but as well as Veronique in the 101, Short Film about Love and Three Colours Blue were not far off. I;m sure there are many famous directors who will seem under-represented to their fans, but that's just my taste
