Some people love it, some can't see why, It's an old fashioned feelgood family film but also with technological advance and love of cinema; i really enjoyed it at the cinema with 3D

I agree with you about Maborosi. One of the most powerful and haunting scenes in the film is the funeral procession by the sea. It's a sublime sequence that concludes a profound meditation on death and grief.
I'm so glad you listed The Band Wagon -- I feel it's too often forgotten about.
Almost all of these are huge personal favorites of mine as well. Some notable exceptions are 2001, Casablanca, Persona, and Singing in the Rain.
woa... quite a list. I've really been needing to see Sansho the Bailiff. Also glad to see The Mirror quite high.
