My 20 Current Favorites and 20 That Will Likely Make The Cut After A Second Viewing.

By: Samurai Panda Poetry

This might be a little weird, but I won’t place a film in my favorite list unless I’ve seen it more than once. There might be love at first viewing, but I need it to be reconfirmed before I take the film to bed with me. The first 20 here are my current favorites, arranged as most favorite towards the top (but it’s not an exact science), and the second 20 are my honorable mentions that will more than likely replace something in my favorites list after I get around to seeing it again. The only exception is The Human Condition, an epic I’ve only seen once but was so affected and astonished by the film it found it’s way right into the top of my list. My criteria isn’t so concrete, but it’s a culmination of emotional, intellectual or cinematic impact and importance, replay value, entertainment value, it’s impact on the way I view films and the world around me and the emotional and intellectual connection it creates with me. Or maybe I just really like watching it. That’s good enough.

It was, but it got bumped after I watched The Thin Red Line again. That moved up into my top 20, and Dry Summer moved into my 20 honorables. This list will probably keep evolving like that.

Haha, it's not on there. I also haven't seen it to take issue with it.

I wouldn't say The Fifth Element is anything amazing or groundbreaking. I just love watching it. It never gets old for me. It's a similar sentiment for Basterds. It's a favorite because I could watch it over and over and enjoy it. Science Of Sleep is certainly polarizing, but that film had a huge emotional impact on me. I'm also pretty certain that most of my runner ups will move up once I see them again. I'll be watching Thin Red Line this weekend, and I've got a feeling it'll make top five. I'm surprised you didn't take issue with Robocop, however.

Surprised by The Fifth Element and The Science of Sleep. Disagree with Inglorious Basterds, but I get it. This is definitely an excellent list. Top score.
