My 2012 in Film
By: Bijoux Alexanderplatz
Sci-Fi Boys (documentary not on Mubi)
Hellraiser: Revelations (not on Mubi)
The Howling: Reborn (not on Mubi)
The Karen Carpenter Story (believe it was a made-for-tv movie) looks like someone is trying to add this one
My Blue Heaven-1950 (submitted it to the database on 5/14/12, so I’m hoping it will be on here soon)
I’m trying to catch up on a lot of cancelled television shows (mostly ones that ended years ago, maybe even decades ago) like Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and Six Feet Under.
Last year, starting in March, I decided to chronicle each month’s film viewing. I stopped after May. Why quit after three months?? Well, I found myself watching films simply so I could put them on the list. If I saw 100 films one month, it would be shameful to see fewer the next, no?? Of course, that was ridiculous, and I didn’t feel that I was fully focusing my time on some of the watched films, either. I’ve decided to try again this year. Here’s some things to know:
1. I hope to gain something by making this list. I don’t think that these lists merely serve as personal reminders of what we watched. If you look at my list, and notice (most likely after fifty or more posts) that there is a filmmaker noticeably absent, suggest a film. Or if you see a pattern in films I’m watching, and think you can discern others I’d like or want to watch, again, your suggestions are welcome.
2. I plan on making one list. That way I’m not comparing my month by month “progress.”
3. The first time I tried a list like this one, I included films I was “re-watching.” I’m not going to do that this time. For example, every April I watch Dazed and Confused. I have the film memorized. But I won’t be including it in this list since. HOWEVER, if I watch a film I’ve seen before, but gain a new understanding of it, or if it’s a film I watched before but barely remembered it, I will include it.
4. Since I’m starting a bit late, I’m going to use my Netflix queue as a guide, so my January watches (at least most of them) will be included, even though I didn’t decide to do this list until February.
Enjoy!!
