My DVD Collection--An Original Concept

Yep. Definitely not the first person to make one of these lists, but I’m totally fine with my willingness to copy. I’m glad I made this list, because I realized two things: A few films that I just assumed I own on DVD are nowhere to be found in my collection (or are collecting dust in their VHS jackets—Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka!!), and I own way more “popcorn” movies than anything (not embarrassed by this fact, especially since these types of films usually comprise the bulk of bargain bins I get the majority of my DVDs from, but I do hope to add a bit more balance). Of course, this fact results in Mubi not yet having a lot of these films on the database.

If you know of one of my films listed (especially the films on the horror collections)that I don’t have on the main list (those movies linked to the database) because it is under a different name on Mubi, please let me know. Thanks!!

A note on categorization:
One of the main reasons I decided to make this list is my need to reorganize my DVDs. My boyfriend and I just don’t have the room right now to store all of our movies in the living room, so I keep most of my films in our spare closet (we don’t have spare rooms, just spare closets). When I first moved in, I just stuffed as many DVDs onto the available shelf space as possible, and then randomly placed the rest in the closet, but you can only magine how frustrating it got when I wanted to watch a specific film in my collection but didn’t know which storage bin it was in.

In order to alleviate this frustration, I have now categorized my films by genre, then alphabetically within genre. Of course, it can’t be that easy, because that’d just be too easy!! When it comes to DVD collections, I have put those alphabetically by collection name within the genre the collection best falls. I say best because sometimes, especially with larger collections, there are multiple genres represented in one collection. In cases like this one, I put the collection in the genre I most associate it with. For example, I own a collection of “Drive-In Movies.” For the most part, when I think about this collection it is because I want to watch a horror film, even though a non-horror entry such as Jive Turkey is included in the collection. And this basic genre rule applies to most of my films. Ultimately, whatever genre I think of when I think of the film, however odd it may seem, trumps all.
