My Favorite Ozu

By: Rohit

Discovering the cinema of Yasujiro Ozu has been one of the greatest things that could have happened in my life. Watching his films have given me a joy that cannot be expressed in words and I hope to watch all his films eventually. The purpose of this list is to remind me of those films that I am yet to watch so that they can be seen and added here.

Good stuff, Rohit. Looks like you're pretty good with his postwar work. I would suggest his two remaining 1933 efforts, "Dragnet Girl" and "Woman of Tokyo". I'm also a fan of his earliest extant film, "Days of Youth".

I have seen all but 3 of Ozu's films. Of the ones you haven't seen I would particularly recommend The Munekata Sisters, Brothers And Sisters Of The Toda Family, A Story of Floating Weeds and especially An Inn In Tokyo, Ozu's final surviving silent film.

My pleasure! I am a massive fan of Japanese cinema and have several lists on the subject. I have seen over 150 Japanese movies but there are so many more to see. I have always favoured 'older' films so there are loads of discoveries for me to make from 'modern' Japanese cinema. I look forward to the journey...
