My Favorite "Spaghetti Westerns" (in somewhat random order)
By: Chris Casey
I love Italian Westerns! I might go so far as to say that “Spaghetti Westerns” are my most favorite film genre (or subgenre, as some prefer to say).
Many of my most favorite examples of this type of film are not among the titles selectable here on MUBI.
Among those are two films directed by the vastly underrated and sadly overlooked, Romolo Guerrieri.
The films are: JOHNNY YUMA (1966) and 10.000 DOLLARI PER UN MASSACRO [aka $10,000 BLOOD MONEY] (1967).
These films are among my absolute most favorite and should be situated somewhere among the Top 10 of my list.
Also, sadly missing from the Spaghetti Western title database here at MUBI are the following titles that should also be on my list:
UN DOLLARO TRA I DENTI (a.k.a. A STRANGER IN TOWN)
IF YOU MEET SARTANA—PRAY FOR YOUR DEATH
ARIZONA COLT
THE LONG DAYS OF VENGEANCE
THE FORGOTTEN PISTOLERO
7 GUNS FOR THE MACGREGORS
BLACK JACK
MY NAME IS PECOS
JOHNNY HAMLET
REQUIEM FOR A GRINGO (aka DUEL IN THE ECLIPSE)
THE STRANGER RETURNS
15 SCAFFOLDS FOR A KILLER
I WANT HIM DEAD
MINNESOTA CLAY
JOHNNY ORO (aka RINGO AND HIS GOLDEN PISTOL)
FURY OF JOHNNY KID
MANOS TORPES (aka CLUMSY HANDS, aka WHEN SATAN GRIPS A COLT)
And so many more!
VIVA LA WESTERN ALL’ITALIANA!!!
