Well, Scorsese would certainly give a good grounding in the classics and some less known oldies! For some post 60s stuff, try the Taviani brothers, eg Night of the Shooting Stars. Senso is my favourite by Visconti. Renoir is for me the father of Italian neo-realism, but more through Toni than Les Bas-Fonds. Fabiola and Bells of Coronado i don't know.
Drew, I can't wait until you see all of those films! I bet you'll have quite the knowledge on those films when you do! At least you're looking for them, too, because some people don't even try that hard... Savvy
