Pretty interesting list with a lot of great entries. Have you heard the Abel Korzeniowski score for A Single Man? Colin Firth claims it has shaped him as an actor. It's gotta be one of the heaviest, emotional scores I've ever heard.
i like clint mansell score for black swan also love the score for life is beautiful.
By overlooked, do you mean compared to James Horner or Hans Zimmer? Actually, many of these scores are considered the finest in their respective genres. The inclusion of composers not specifically dedicated to the cinema -- Popul Vuh, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Miles Davis -- might make them seem obscure by comparison, but the scores they created were revolutionary. I read a post saying you listen to black metal? What's on your playlist nowadays? I'm into film scoring myself, and tend to favor atmospheric soundtracks employing experimental/avant-garde techniques.
i don't think that Daus Of Heaven score are overlooked, since many considered that one of its power is in the musical department. Other than that, a great list !
Fantastic list! For your consideration: Sergei Prokofiev's score for Alexander Nevsky.
Can I just say I adored the original score to Michael Clayton which I think is very underappreciated. Glad to see Z, really great film that not a lot of people these days have even heard of.
