RIVERS AND WATERWAYS

suggestions welcome

Night of the Hunter

The River (Renoir)

~
Langston Hughes: The Negro Speaks of Rivers

I’ve known rivers:
I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I’ve seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset.

I’ve known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I think some of them are more suited to and already on my list The Sea.

How about 'Red River'. The issue is, of cpurse. more about crossing it than going down it. I know that Catherine Hess;ing doesn't appeal to everyone but Jean Renoir's early 'La Fille de l'eau' aka 'Whirlwind of love' has a silly story but makes almost as beautiful a uae of the river as 'Partie de Campagne'/ It's also one of yje films which shows most clearly the influence of his father's paintings

Do you think those films have enough of the rivers/waterways as a main feature?
