Very nice work. Spirit of the Beehive is a film very dear to my heart. It perhaps comes closer to the essential mystery of childhood than any film I know of with the possible exception of Forbidden Games. And one cannot celebrate the great culture of Spain without mentioning the weird and wonderful Salvador Dali!

Suggestions (up to 1960): "La torre de los siete jorobados", extraordinary fantasy-comedy by Edgar Neville, and "Marcelino, pan y vino", box-office hit by Hungarian-born Ladislao Vajda. Also (but not on Mubi): Silent "La aldea maldita" (1930), republican musical "La verbena de la Paloma" (1935), melodrama "Cielo negro" (1951), comedy "Historias de la radio" (1955), and one more by master Berlanga, the Ealing-style comedy "Calabuch". To be continued...

Hi Kenji, I'm fanning this list for the second time already since I did it the day that al the data disappeared. I'm glad to see you included a poem by Espriu and by Lorca (my favourite, definitely maybe...). I agree with Amat in those two films by José Luis Cuerda, especially "Amanece que no es poco". Also I have a recommendation for you: Albert Serra's "Birdsong" is one of the most stunning films made in Spain lately, in terms of cinematography. Hope you'll like it if you have the time to watch it. And there is also Portabella's "Nocturno 29" that you might like to watch. Very nice list :)

I've submited one of my favourite Spanish movies: El bosque encantado, by José Luis Cuerda. I hope it gets aproved. Have you seen it? That one and Amanece que no es poco totally captured the idiosyncrasy of Spain.

Beautiful dedication Kenji I felt a wonderful sensation as I read the Intro, the poems and viewing these pictures brought back memories as the one you did for the City of Lights. I hope to return there some day and visit Madrid. Thank you Kenji.

I have seen several of these, but there are certainly many to discover... love the almodovar, especially "Talk to Her"... "Spirit of the Beehive" is an excellent movie.
