Sports on Film: Woop!
By: Blake GOBLE
An extrapolation of an article I wrote several months ago for my old paper. The headline read: “My Favorite Sports Films and I Don’t What You Think.” Well, I care what you think. Any ideas, good, solid ideas, will and must be added. I want to create an ultimate list.
I think the sports genre is my unabashedly favorite genre. It has the purest and the rawest of drama, as well as the most familiar and effective senses of humor. Granted, this site doesn’t readily cater to the humor part. But still – there’s a great world of movies out there, if you look beyond Walt Disney.
Some of the rules as per my previous article:
- Fuck Kevin Costner
- “Hoosiers” is disqualified, due to the face that it’s from the director of “Rudy,” the vilest piece of propaganda put to film.
Also, I originally said no boxing films, but that’s only because I couldn’t make up my mind, given that there are so many good boxing films. And that’s about it… so, let’s get it on.
Note: “Grand Prix,” “The Bad News Bears,” “National Velvet,” “The Freshman,” “Fat City” and “Slap Shot” are not available on this website, but, you never know?
