This is a great list myra! I love your selections! I'll watch em all if i can. Also thanks for accompanying Chris Eriz (a.k.a. scorpiorising) at the Lightbox/Cinemateque! I get worried when he watches a film alone. :)

Yehey for the Tsai Ming-Liang love! Just curious, what specific Taiwanese films are those film stills from? I can only recognize The Wedding Banquet, of course >_<.

It definitely is hard, most of the stuff Ive seen from Taiwan pre 1980s was in uni. I wouldnt be able to locate a copy of any of it for reviewing even if I tried. Heck its hard enough to locate copies of well known recent films from that country, ie Terrorizer, A Brighter Summer Day, etc..

Another recent one, Ang Lee's Pushing Hands.

These are the only ones I can recall. The first two are generic propagandistic fare. The Winter is your typical national allegorical melodrama and Home Sweet Home deals with the urbanization/globalization of Taipei. Beautiful Duckling (1964) - Li Xing Oyster Girl (1964) - Li Xing, Li Jia The Winter (1969) - Li Hanxiang Home Sweet Home (1970) - Bai Jingrui Id also suggest these two post-80s works: Buddha Bless America (1996) - Wu Nien-jen The Personals (1998) - Chen Kuo-fu
