Nice list... but Sansho The Bailiff is 1954 not 1955! :)
Argo? I'm going to vomit.
Atonement. Now we're talking :D
anyone who likes pixote is a friend of mine...
It is hilariously disappointing that neither Alien nor Blade Runner can be find under their respective years. And Full Metal Jacket is apparently inferior to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
Unreal.
but still a very good list that I find some lost gems here: )
desperately disappointed that I can't find Leon...
very disappointed that I can't find dead poets society here
this is awesome, just wish there was a honorable mention somewhere here...
This must have taken you ages, great list.
this is nuts. you're wonderful!
I disagree all over the place, but damn, I salute you – quite a list.
That was an amazing list I was so suprised that you have seen so may movies I was very interested by the way I have seen some of these movie and they are really good!!!! :)
Amazing! One of the best collection of lists I have seen on Mubi. I have been making these lists every year since about 92 and it's always interesting to look back even though my tastes are always changing!
Quite phenomenal if I say so. I disagree with much but that's quite beside the point. This list reaffirms my love of cinema while reminding me how much there is still to be seen.
Impressive list! However, I can not disagree more regarding Up In The Air.
Sansho is one of the all-time greats. It has nothing to do with being less enamored and everything to do with less seen. I don't see nearly a quarter of what I used to and don't have access to many new foreign releases while in theaters, so while I'm pretty well-versed on the classics, the majority of foreign language films from the 2000s, 1990s, and to some extent even the 80's have gone unseen by me.
Sansho the Bailiff is the correct choice for 1954 against strong competition. You don't seem so enamoured of non-Anglophone films in the last few decades. And yes, we need Cabiria on the site.
