The Importance of Driving Automobiles
By: Mark Ayala
Being from Los Angeles, I know the pain of not driving a car. I’m sure you from New York or Chicago or London might think I’m a lazy bum, but getting around this city without the convenience of being able to drive an automobile is an awful pain. Having seen the vital necessity of cars to the people around me, cars tend to grab my eye in films. I may not know much about cars themselves, but it’s impact on modern society is just as important as it’s effect on cinema. Here are some films that show the importance of the car; everything from being a phallic symbol, to a way to get girls, to being a status symbol, as a means of escape, or even a place to live out of.
