I've only seen six. Like this comment if you've seen them all, and I'll follow you.
I have now seen *Harakiri* (fantastic) and *3 Women* (just okay). Looking forward to exploring the rest.
As much as I believe The Third Part of the Night isn't Zulawskis best as well as We Won't Grow Old Togetether as the best Pialat none the less you'll be hard pressed to find a better list thanks mubi board. Now if only Lav Diaz was actually available at least via torrent. I think his is the one on the list hardest to find. How can we change that??
YES! Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors is maybe my fave film of all time. I'm proud to see it near the top of the list.
I'm quite surprised that Tarkovsky and Brakhage weren't on the list and by the Altman film chosen (McCabe & Mrs. Miller is easily his masterpiece and blows his others out of the water.)
Ruiz fans have something to celebrate. A spot in the Top 20 with one of the master's greatest films.
Am glad Mizoguchi top the list, if not for the different film. Still think Ugetsu is better than Sansho.
Can anyone tell me when the Scorsese-restored version of A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY will be released on DVD? Surely CRITERION/eureka/MOC will do it this year......?!
With hindsight, its surprising we nearly gave the film the top spot on the final list a quarter of a way through the poll.
Probably one of the bloodiest (and interesting) threads in a while, the former because even films like Three Godless Years, which we thought would win this at the beginning, weren't safe from elimination, and the later for generating conversations about the negative and positive sides of the voting. I'm delighted Heartbeat Detector (aka The Human Question), which was my second favourite film and choice, survived as long as it did, and I'm happy for anyone (especially those who nominated Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors) whose films got to the Top 20.
Well said, DiB. I'm glad WOMAN IN THE DUNES made to the list becaust that's one I voted for. :)
