The Remains of the Decade (The Noughties)

By: © <',))( Astro-Tofupraxographer

You’ll rarely see these films on people’s “Best of the Decade” lists, but they’re definitely worthy of your attention. I tried, for the most part, to avoid “canon” directors, even if they did make something in the last decade that was largely ignored, the closest I have to a canon director is probably James Benning, but seeing as his films cannot be seen on DVD and are limited to festivals and rare screenings, I’d consider him to a director who’s overlooked.

Thanks for fanning this list, keep checking back here, I’m always stumbling on some odd gem here and there. And by checking this list you’ll at least have seen two films that you’ve probably never seen before: Lift & She is Reading Newspaper.

Not in the database:

Lift (Marc Isaacs, 2001)

It’s been added now, but I’m leaving this up here for the viewing link. Watch this wonderful doc here.

Wanted: Border (Ray Defante Gibraltar, 2009)

Parapalos (Pin Boy) (Ana Poliak, 2004)

The Low Down (Jamie Thraves, 2000)

Current Shot 01 (Philippe Gerlach/Stefan Kushima, 2007)

Huling Balyan ng Buhi (Sherad Anthony Sanchez, 2006)

A Tree in Tanjung Malim (Tan Chui Mui, 2004)

Also been added, but I’ll keep the screen shot here because I like it.

She is Reading Newspaper (Tossapol Boonsinsukh, 2005)

Excellent list, and so many contemplative films too :) I look forward to watching the ones I haven't seen or heard of. Thanks for this great list.
