I can't describe how happy I am to see the words Gorky's Zygotic Mynci on this site!!! They are my second favorite band of all time! Barafundle is a great album!

Barafundle bay is picturesque, and Bosherston Pools too! Gorki's Zygotic Mynci named their album Barafundle after....

Another one for your list is the debut film from Hattie Dalton, Third Star, which closed out the Edinburgh International Film Festival tonight. It is shot on location in Pembrokeshire and makes good use of the coastal landscape. Barafundle Bay looks very picturesque. I'm going to have to track down Last Days of Dolwyn somehow. My inability to remember that quote has been annoying me for years, and I have a feeling it will let me down when I finally hear it again.

Well, we've not had much o a Welsh cinema tradition, more in service of others. I had high hopes for Valleywood, to put Wales firmly on the world map, but it seems to nhave run aground. Funnily enough i also remembered Carry on up the Khyber today for the Scottish list too! As for Burton in Last Days of Dolwyn, which i don't think i've mentioned above, i don't know the quote offhand though maybe i should

What a noble contribution the Welsh have made, and *Carry on up the Khyber* is perfect for my Scottish list. However I was hoping your memory could help me out. I've been trying to remember for years what Richard Burton says to a woman in the shop in *The Last Days of Dolwyn*. It was something about the Welsh and the English or cultural cringe or something, but the thirty years since I saw it have erased it from my memory.

There are others in Welsh (certainly not a huge number), but i think i've covered the main ones. I'll have to check which ones i've missed that are worthy of inclusion, a couple come to mind that were no great shakes, but i could add them anyway. Auteurs could do with adding some of thje goodies anyway. Glad you had a good time in the Welsh hills, hope the weather was fine!

are there really so few welsh language films? i was just looking for films on here in gaelic and ended up here, which suggests that gaelic is even worse off. then it struck me that i've not seen anything in either. i spent my 14th summer roaming around welsh hills, smoking pot with a wild young lad and wanted to relive it in some way. sad. i'm hoping this list will grow....

There's a very contemporary welsh feature film called A Bit Of Tom Jones. You have to count that one once it's recognized on this website.

Zulu Dawn recounts the defeat of british forces at Isandhlwana (sp?), the worst defeat by a modern army against native forces in all of history. It really is a terrible film, tripping over every cliche trying to be PC while still hoping to be a rousing action epic.

I dont know but the original Zulu is much better known and generally more admired i think. It's in Jonathan Rosenbaum's top 1000 if memory serves, still shown on TV quite often. It has Stanley Baker, and singer Ivor Emmanuel from the same little village as Richard Burton. The regiment's museum is at Brecon, where i used to live. Wales is twinned with Lesotho from Zulu's neck of the woods, the first twinning of countries i think. Zulu and many other films i've mentioned above aren't on auteurs; it certainly belongs on the main list.

Is Zulu Dawn about the same regiment as Zulu? I don't remember either exceptionally well, but I seem to recall the later Zulu Dawn being the better film.

What? No love for The Englishman that Went Up a Hil and Came Down a Mountain? It has Tara Fitzgerald in it! That should be worth some notice... I also have some fondness for The Undying Monster. The plots a bit creaky, but it looks great! John Brahm certainly had some style. Teasing aside, nice list. (Oops, sorry, didn't mean to undercut your post, had to fix a spelling error.)

i'm still working on this, was going to add Englishman who went up a Hill..
