TIFF09 Favorites
By: mina
These are the films I saw at TIFF09, roughly ordered by how much I liked them.
Some might take issue with the low ranking of The White Ribbon in this list, but I have to say that walking out of the theatre I definitely appreciated the mastery of the cinematography, direction, even the manipulative storytelling, but I didn’t enjoy myself, it was a little too dense and dark and obfuscated to prompt an immediate appreciation for it as a whole. After thinking about it frequently over the following few days, I realised that the film had affected me pretty deeply and by virtue of that I have to admire it. Maybe a second viewing will deliver more fully.
Anyways, I went with how much I enjoyed the experience for this list.
